Four suspects conceded bail over SIM swap fraud

 

Four people as of late captured over SIM trade extortion have been conceded bail by an Accra Circuit court directed by Her Honor Elle Ofei-Ayeh.

The four were placed under the watchful eye of court on Wednesday, April 13, 2022.

Two (2) of the denounced people, Stephen Arthur and Nicholas Gyekye were each conceded bail in the amount of GH¢6 million with three guarantees who ought to be profitably utilized while the leftover two (2) Ahmed Ansah and Daniel Kodzi were each allowed bail in the amount of GH¢5 million with three guarantees who ought to be beneficially utilized.

The denounced people argued not liable to nine (9) counts of intrigue to take, endeavor to take, and partaking in a coordinated crook bunch slapped on them.

EOCO and the Ghana Association of Bankers did the activity that prompted the capture of the suspects recently.

They were captured while endeavoring to pull out a measure of GH¢2.1 million from the records of certain clients of a native bank wrongfully.

"That's what examinations uncovered, the blamed people looked for the help for an authority of the Bank to furnish them with financial balance subtleties to help them pull out assets from clients' records. Also, they mentioned telephone numbers and ledger subtleties of clients with tremendous equilibriums," EOCO said in an articulation.

"The blamed people then purportedly schemed with a MTN staff who figured out how to clone three telephone numbers fully intent on taking from the bank's clients. The amounts of GH¢850,000, GH¢680,000 and GHc50,000 it were focused on to have a place with 3 clients. The charged people set up a portable application with the cloned SIMs to pull out the assets from the clients' financial balances. It was in their endeavor that the blamed people were captured," the assertion added.

A second knowing about the case is planned for May 17, 2022.
